Equality and Diversity

Well, quite simply it means that Villages will treat everyone equally and fairly when we are dealing with customers, appointing contractors or recruiting staff.

By 'equality' we mean treating people fairly. By 'diversity' we mean valuing peoples' differences.

It is illegal, and simply wrong, to discriminate against anyone because of their race, age, disability, sexuality, gender, transgender, faith/religion, or ethnic origin. If any of our staff or tenants suffers harassment because of any of the above, we have procedures in place to deal with the causes of the harassment.

Villages recognise that effectively addressing Equality and Diversity is not only good for business, but also for the communities we serve. We need to ensure that:
  • we fulfil our legal responsibilities;
  • our services are relevant, responsive and sensitive to the needs of our existing and future customers;
  • all sections of the communities in which we work, and the wider communities, have equal access to those services;

We have worked with all sections of our communities in Oldham and Knowsley to develop our Equality and Diversity Strategy, which basically is a plan of how we intend to make sure that we place Equality and Diversity at the heart of all that we do.
